ICON Engineering pays homage to one of the most significant sports racing cars of all time, the legendary Le Mans-winning Porsche 917.

Following extensive product development, we are now able to manufacture to order a limited quantity of highly authentic and dimensionally-correct recreations of the car for road and track…the ICON 917K.

ICON founders Dave Eaton and John Hartland are specialist automotive engineers with a combined experience spanning over 80 years, focused on global brands including Ferrari, Ford, Lamborghini and McLaren. Their combined experience, high-technology skills and hand-building craftsmanship have led to this unique, bespoke, reverse-engineered Porsche 917 recreation.

ICON 917K: In brief

True to the Le Mans-winning Porsche 917, the ICON 917K features a 100% round tube spaceframe chassis. The GRP bodyshell is equally authentic, taken from moulds of the original 1969 Porsche 917 (Chassis 010) raced by David Piper.

The ICON 917K is engineered to take any Porsche drivetrain, from a normally-aspirated and turbocharged flat-six through to the 5-litre flat 12, with Porsche transmission.

Its kerb weight of 940kg is within 5 to 10% of the original Le Mans-winning Porsche 917, providing electrifying performance for road and track from even a blueprinted 3.6 litre flat six engine.

All suspension, braking and major components replicate the original Porsche 917, together with ancillaries, and the car features an authentic interior layout and specification.

ICON 917K: In the spotlight

We are immensely proud that towards the end of its development, the prototype ICON 917K was requested for the central Porsche display at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Following the Goodwood display,  extensive testing was completed and passed the UK IVA (Individual Vehicle Registration) test in July 23rd 2019, and has subsequently been widely reported and praised by influential media including Octane, Petrolicious, Pistonheads, 911 & Porsche World, and GT Porsche

Dear John and Dave

Thanks for your time this morning – your Icon 917 sounds a pretty special car.

As I said, the Duke of Richmond has personally asked me to touch base with you to see whether you'd kindly allow Goodwood and the Porsche Factory to place your car on the Porsche Central Feature at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed. He specifically chose your car as the best of all the options he was shown.

Of course they will provide hospitality in return for your generosity.

Please let me know your thoughts as Goodwood are very keen to tie up the final design.

Look forward to hearing.

Best wishes

Jack
