The magic 2300mm......

I have posted some of these photos previously, but needed to post both the front and rear suspension assemblies together, as last week we made the first front and rear suspension assembly.

And this enabled us to measure the following:

  • Wheel base, LHS & RHS.
  • Distance across both the front and rear upright faces.
  • And diagonal measurements across opposite uprights

I have listed the dimensions below:Wheel base LHS: 2301mm (should be 2300mm)

  • Wheel base RHS: 2296mm (should be 2300mm)
  • Diagonal left front to right rear: 2744mm.
  • Diagonal right front to left rear 2749mm.

These diagonal measurements are within 5mm of each other.

  • Front uprights across car 1503mm (should be 1505mm-see ppt CAD image, so 2mm variation)
  • Rear uprights across car 1442mm. (should be 1445mm-see ppt CAD image, so 3mm variation).

So to conclude, my aim was to build the suspension within 2 / 3mm of CAD. So if I take the average of each set of measurements, the first chassis is achieving this tolerance, which is excellent news. And with a fully rose jointed set-up (as per the original) we can tune this 2 / 3mm out!

Next checks will be to position the 4 rims to the uprights, and check bodywork offsets. This will tell me if the tyres will fit under the arches, as shown in CAD....... Tyres will be available mid April, and stub shafts end of July/August. So rolling chassis mid Sept.......
